To have an overview of the places where humans and animals reside.
Hakutozan Observatory
From the mountaintop, a landscape unfolds where human settlements coexist with the forests inhabited by animals. This scenery, which continues gently without disrupting each other's worlds, symbolizes the exquisite sense of distance that Lake Akan has preserved over time.
The Shiroyuyama Observation Deck offers a panoramic view of the magnificent nature surrounding Lake Akan Caldera. The majestic Mt. Oakan and Mt. Meakan, the habitat of marimo (moss balls), and the endlessly sprawling forests can all be appreciated from this vantage point. Standing here, one can instantly sense the interconnectedness of all life surrounding Lake Akan.
The Furebetsu Forest Road, which connects the lakeside and the observation deck, is a narrow path wide enough for only a single vehicle. It is not an easily traversable route. However, the breathtaking panorama that unfolds beyond the forest makes the effort worthwhile, instantly overshadowing any fatigue.
In this region, humans, animals, and nature coexist while maintaining a delicate balance. The scenery viewed from this point serves as a prologue to a journey that narrates the beauty of these relationships.
On tours conducted in the early morning, there is approximately a 40% chance of encountering a sea of clouds. Here, one can experience the dynamic story of Lake Akan from the forest, lakeside, on the lake, and even above the clouds, creating a truly special moment.
