We are pleased to announce the launch of a new official tourism website for the Lake Akan area,
located in eastern Hokkaido and embraced by primeval forests and a caldera lake.

This website shares seasonal stories that highlight the essence of Lake Akan—
from the legendary marimo moss balls, a symbol of the lake,
to the Forest of Light, the Northern Lakeshore Forest, and the winter primeval forest.
Through these narratives, we present Lake Akan as a place where nature and people coexist in harmony.

Visitors can also explore stories of those who carry on Ainu cultural traditions,
as well as key figures who have supported both tourism and environmental conservation in the region.
These perspectives offer a deeper understanding of the unique “sense of closeness to nature” that can only be experienced here.
